“The Original Since 1970”
"Born and raised in Västerås, Sweden. Dj Nova has spent years producing music behind the scenes, collaborating with a wide range of artists and projects in different genres. Now, he’s stepping into the spotlight to present his own tracks under the new alias, NOVISH.."
A Life in Music and Sound..
It all began with the sounds in my mother’s kitchen. As a child, I would drum on pots and pans and try out anything I could find that might make a rhythm. I loved experimenting with sound: listening, changing the tempo and discovering how something simple could become a beat or a piece of music. That feeling is still with me today, and I don’t think it will ever go away.
The Inspiration..
Growing up, I was drawn to electronic music and became especially fascinated by Eurodance and Italo disco. I loved artists such as Modern Talking, C.C. Catch, Blue System, Cappella, Magic Affair and 2 Unlimited. I often shut myself away in my room, recording songs from radio stations that played the music I liked. Then I used two tape recorders to mix the songs together and try to match them up. I had so much fun doing it!
The Equipment..
I bought my own turntables early on - Technics SL-1210 MK2s - along with a Gemini PMX mixer, and started practising mixing and scratching. Rhythm always came naturally to me, and I quickly developed my skills. Being able to adjust a song’s speed and shape the way it sounded felt incredible. Then came the CD era. My first CD player was a Denon 2000F. Today, my equipment include Pioneer controllers such as the SX2, FLX4 and FLX10.
The Gigs..
I had the chance to dj at many different places from a young age, from school discos and small parties to larger events. As the years went by, bars and clubs began booking me, and I spent more and more time playing for dance floors. I became a resident dj at several venues, where night after night I learned to read the crowd and adapt the music to the people in front of me. That experience has stayed with me. Reading an audience is still a central part of every gig I play, and clients often tell me afterwards how much they appreciated the way the music suited their guests.
Music Production..
For many years now, my passion for sound has also had a home in my own music studio. There, I produce music for artists from countries including the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany. I also create jingles for radio and businesses. In many ways, it brings me the same joy I felt as a child experimenting with rhythms in the kitchen—only now I have more ways to turn an idea into a finished sound or song.
A Final Word..
I’ve been active as a DJ since the mid-1980s and have worked professionally since 1990. Over the years, I’ve built a large music collection spanning every genre, from 1960s classics to today’s club hits. These days, I play at everything from weddings and corporate events to club nights and lounge venues all over Sweden. I’ve also played many gigs abroad, including in England, Spain and Finland, Norway among other countries. Every gig is different, so I choose the music to suit the people, the setting and the atmosphere we want to create. My aim is the same as it was when I started all those years ago: to create the right feeling through music and give people an experience they’ll remember.
